Hackford, Norfolk, also known as Hakeford, or Hackford by Hingham. It was owned by Ketel in Edward the ConfessorŌs time (1042-66).

By the time of the Domesday Survey, Tovil was holding the Manor when it was three furlongs long and two broad. It was taxed at 7d. It was soon afterwards held by the Barons of Horsford Castle.
In 1205, Simon Fritz-Walter and Sarah, his wife, released the third part of the village, which Sarah then held in dower of her first husband, Thomas de Burgh, in exchange for his granting them lands in Somerton. It belonged to John de Hackford in about 1340.

Sir Robert Berney was executor of Ralph de VernonÕs will and sold the Lordship in about 1401 to Thomas de Bockying who held it of the Manor of Horsford as the heirs, but he left only a daughter, Margaret, who married John Fox of Castle Acre, who died seized of the Lordship in 1484. He gave the Manor to his wife for her life and it was sold to Sir John Windham at her death.

Edmund Windham sold the Lordship in 1572 to Richard Johnson and the Manor changed hands on numerous occasions at the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th centuries until it passed into the possession of Sir Henry Hobart, Attorney-General. It remained in the Hands of the Hobarts until 1663 when it was sold to Robert Long of Spixworth. Due to some now unknown family disagreement, Robert disinherited his eldest son, Francis.

Francis died leaving a son who in 1739 was a minor and the estate was sold by his trustees to Lord Wodehouse. The late Earl of Kimberley, Baron Wodehouse, conveyed the Lordship by fine to Mr Bichsel in 1986.
